A Petite Pint

Hey Y’all,
I am in my thirties and have never donated blood. I’ve always wanted to but the thought of needles was never appealing to me. I am a petite woman and wasn't sure if I can donate.
Despite me being nervous I focused on all the good I would be doing. I made my appointment and was on my way.

If you're thinking about donating here’s a break down of what will take place:
-If you have never donated before, you will be given a sticker that states so, that way the nurses can keep a closer eye on how you will react to the procedure.
-You will fill out a registration form (It is important that you answer honestly).
-They will give you a finger test to analyze your hemoglobin content.
-You are then directed to a bed and are prepped for donation. Your arm will be placed on an armrest, where you will squeeze and release a small object in your hand.
-They will then insert a needle into your arm of course. ( I believe I donated a pint of blood)
-Afterwards an assistant will help you to the recover area where you will snack on some goodies and drink juices or water.
-If you are feeling fine you are then good to go.

I felt great donating, especially when I found out not many people can donate. If you are on certain medications, have low iron, weigh less than 110 lbs. you cannot donate. And of course illnesses prevent many from being able to donate. So, please consider donating if you are able to.

I felt good enough to strike a pose! LOL :)

Running to December's Finish Line

Hey Y'all,
This year I began running after hearing about my 2 friend's Marathon achievements. Listening to their enthusiasm while talking about running made me want to run too. I wanted to feel the same excitement they felt.
One of my friends (who will remain nameless and Yes! he does exist) says "Running is the only sport where it doesn't matter what size, weight, or age you are, Anyone can run!"
I began giving myself small goals. First I ran a 3 mile, 4 mile and then I caught the bug! I started training for the NY Half Marathon. Throughout this I decided to begin my 9+1 qualifying program for entry to the 2012 NYC Marathon.
http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/about/9_1_guaranteed_entry.htm

So far, I have completed 7 runs plus my 1 volunteer day. Nearing the end of 2011, I only need 2 more runs to qualify. I am extremely excited at being able to achieve this goal I set for myself this year. Next year I will have an even bigger goal to set.
I am thankful to my 2 friends who have trained with me and supported me along this road. They are always there to push me and educate me on how things should be done. I am a lucky woman to have AM and JL in my life.

Procrastinating Shoppers

During the holidays it’s difficult to get all of your holiday shopping done, between work, family visits, and everyday life, or maybe your like me and just likes to wait till the last minute.
Here are some tips to help you save time and relieve not only your stress but also, your wallet.
Tips:
-Search for purchases that include a free gift. Not only can you kill two birds with one stone but you also cut your shopping time.
·         http://www.victoriassecret.com has special savings. For example, buy 2 sweaters for $40. Two gifts for $40 bucks! If that’s not a savings, then I don’t know what is.  http://www.macys.com has cologne/ perfume gift sets that come with a free gift (Certain Sean John gift sets come with a free watch!).

- You can also look for stocking stuffer savings. http://www.bathandbodyworks.com offers 5 for $5 PocketBac (mini travel anti-bacteria gel) in holiday candy scents.

-Don’t forget about http://www.livingsocial.com/about and http://www.groupon.com providing great deals and savings.
-Opt for buying toys at http://www.kmart.com, http://www.target.com, and http://www.walmart.com, Instead of Toys R Us and FAO. You will save more money.

Have a Great Holiday! xoxo

http://www.2015quilt.com/Home#p=19919

The facts don’t lie.
Here’s why we need your help.

AN HIV+ PREGNANT WOMEN CAN GIVE BIRTH TO AN HIV FREE BABY.

98% OF MOTHER-TO-CHILD HIV TRANSMISSION INCIDENTS ARE PREVENTABLE

YET, MORE THAN 1,000 BABIES ARE BORN EVERY DAY WITH HIV

AND HALF OF CHILDREN BORN WITH HIV WILL DIE BEFORE THEIR 2ND BIRTHDAY WITHOUT TREATMENT

SO WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO VIRTUALLY END THE TRANSMISSION OF HIV FROM MOTHERS TO THEIR BABIES BY 2015?

WE NEED TO GET 1.4 MILLION HIV+ PREGNANT WOMEN ON MEDICATION – MEDICATION THAT COSTS AROUND 40 CENTS A DAY

IT’S DOABLE.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF AIDS STARTS WITH YOU.
