Follow the Target to the Brooklyn Museum

Hey Y'all,
I hit up Target's First Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum for the Killer Heels exhibit. It rained all day, I don't know why I was under the impression that it wouldn't be busy (cause I was wrong!)
The Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe exhibit was amazing. I saw shoes from past to the present and how the styles have changed over the years. The exhibit is organized by Lisa Small, Curator of Exhibitions, Brooklyn Museum. Shoes weren't just created for art, height and accessorizing; they also served as a representation of your social class. The higher the shoe, the higher up in class you were. I guess that rings true even till this day.

I love shoes but I hate the suffering that comes along with it. They are very helpful at times for lengthening my legs and giving me the ability to see over taller people (or maybe giving me a slightly adjacent view.) At any given time I can suffer blisters, pinched toes, the weight of my body weighing heavily on the front of my toes as they smash up against the front of the shoes, chaffing in the back of my ankles, not to mention the pressure my arch suffers from all the pronation. I'm not sure if I ever learned the correct way of walking in them or maybe my feet are not meant to be in them. Despite all these injuries, I still continue to wear them (just not all the time).

Brooklyn Museum had various events in conjunction with the Heels exhibit. There was a curator talk with Lisa Small and music performances by the Hot Sardines, Rock Ballerina and TK Wonder.
I attended the Hands-On Art Studio Time, where we created our own shoes based on the influence of the exhibit. They provided model magic (an air dry clay) and supplies. I had no idea what I was doing. There was a shoe model made by a friend that got a lot of stares and looks from everyone inside and outside the studio. They also had a Killer Heels Photo-Op to rock your heels and tell them what your shoe says about you. I participated using my Madden Girl Loop MG Dressy Sandals. I love these shoes because they are so glittery and have a platform. I labeled my photo (Stars).

Some of the events the museum offers require you to obtain an additional ticket. Make sure if the event you want to attend requires a ticket, you have to show up to the queue at least an hour prior to distribution. We showed up an hour prior and the tickets were already gone to an event we wanted to see. Pick your top two and a standby one just in case you can't get in to the first two.
The Killer Heels exhibit will be on display until February 15, 2015. I think you guys will really like it, it's a heel of a time!

Jason Wuuuu-here did the time go?

Hey Y'all,
This post was created after the event due to purchasing, ordering, returning and reordering, which I believe some of you ladies will understand.
So, on top of Superbowl mania, The Jason Wu line at Target was released on February 5th and I had the opportunity to view both events.

I arrived at the Target store around 8:10am which is pretty late only to find most of the items off the rack. We were all just standing around waiting for the discarded items to come back from the fitting room. As some of you know when it’s a free for all and no system is in place, individuals can grab as many items as they want, which is what happened here.
As articles of clothing came back everyone was quick to snatch them up regardless if they were the right size (It’s like when you drop food into a fish tank and they all swarm up to the spot where the food was dropped, which is pretty amusing to witness so long as everyone keeps they’re cool).

I managed to grab the blouse with Tie in blush dots in a medium and the short sleeve tee with tie in cream in a small, only one fit.

I stood around for a bit to see if anymore items became available particularly the poplin dress in navy. I spoke to the manager who was also working as crowd control at the Wu section who said that they didn’t expect such a turn up, about 5 people stayed overnight and there were 60 people by the time the store open. They usually have a system where you cannot purchase more than two of the same item but that didn’t happen this time. He told me they grabbed huge bulks and headed to the fitting room. To no avail I decided to head home and get ready for the Championship game. I split my time between watching the game and viewing the Target website on my smart phone (obsess much? YES!)
Because items were also sold online I revisited the site for a couple of days. Everyone knows the lucky ones who were able to order items must’ve ordered multiple sizes (since you’re never sure if the items run true to size) and would be returning the unwanted items. I was able to order my poplin dress in navy and the sleeveless pleated shift dress in navy dots with black belt. After waiting for what felt like a month, my items had finally trickled in one by one.

First was the poplin dress, the only item I really wanted from the line but it turned out it didn’t fit my body type the right way, so I sent it back. The next was the pleated shift dress which was cute. Once I tried it on I fell in love with it, the dress fit my body perfectly and was very light and comfortable.

After a nice obsessive hunt for the Wu collection I was pretty happy with my purchases. This just goes to show you that even if you don’t stay overnight for an affordable collaboration there are still opportunities to get your hands on them and of course NY won the Superbowl, it was a win win situation.

Procrastinating Shoppers

During the holidays it’s difficult to get all of your holiday shopping done, between work, family visits, and everyday life, or maybe your like me and just likes to wait till the last minute.
Here are some tips to help you save time and relieve not only your stress but also, your wallet.
Tips:
-Search for purchases that include a free gift. Not only can you kill two birds with one stone but you also cut your shopping time.
·         http://www.victoriassecret.com has special savings. For example, buy 2 sweaters for $40. Two gifts for $40 bucks! If that’s not a savings, then I don’t know what is.  http://www.macys.com has cologne/ perfume gift sets that come with a free gift (Certain Sean John gift sets come with a free watch!).

- You can also look for stocking stuffer savings. http://www.bathandbodyworks.com offers 5 for $5 PocketBac (mini travel anti-bacteria gel) in holiday candy scents.

-Don’t forget about http://www.livingsocial.com/about and http://www.groupon.com providing great deals and savings.
-Opt for buying toys at http://www.kmart.com, http://www.target.com, and http://www.walmart.com, Instead of Toys R Us and FAO. You will save more money.

Have a Great Holiday! xoxo
