GOTYE at Letterman

Hey Y'all,
I was so excited to attend the GOTYE webcast at the Letterman Show. This Belgian-Australian singer is amazing live. It was difficult for me to see him at Coachella since everyone swarmed his tent when he came out. GOTYE sings and plays multiple instruments throughout his concert making it seem effortless. I love the way the band interacts, the chemistry is unbelievable. He closed the show with one of my favorite songs "Hearts a Mess".

Homo Consommatus S/S 2013 at Pier 57

Hey Y'all,
I attended Russian designer Alexey Sorokin's show at Marine and Aviation Pier 57. Alexey is from St. Petersburg. His show was called Homo Consommatus and his inspiration is drawn from future ethnic and economical problems and how altering ourselves can improve future relations (well, that's how I saw it). Homo Consommatus means The Consuming Human in Latin, which is what we as humans do. This designer has become one of my favorites and I would be honored to wear his clothing. It isn't just the concept of creation that grabs me but also how different his pieces are compared to other designers.
I loved this designer's presentation as it was nothing like the traditional catwalk runway. The show itself was set up with a huge projection screen where they had images of models in his clothes while at the same time having models walk across the projection, creating great art. My favorite part of the show was when there was a giant projection of a model looking down at a real model standing there looking up at the projected model, it was a great!
The pier itself is an amazing space as it's right on the water. I personally felt a connection between the location and Alexey's concept. I think water serves as an excellent symbolism for this show. Growing up in Manhattan, I used to walk along the open piers (now known as Hudson River Conservancy) and could easily touch the water if I was tempted to. The whole area was isolated and industrial at a time when the economy was doing extremely well. Going back to this area now and seeing how much it has changed with the addition of bike lanes, benches, guardrails, greenery, etc. and knowing what our economy is going through seems like such an oxymoron to me. As much as we have improved in our lives, society is constantly going through conflicts and giving us issues to deal with in our lives.

Milly Fashion Show at Lincoln

Hey Y'all,
I was finally able to make it to some Fashion Week shows. First up is the Milly by Michelle Smith show at Lincoln Center Stage. Her style has a lot of texture and the colors are rich. She started her line in 2001 and has done wonders with it. Her collection includes bags and accessories and a line for younger fashionistas.
Milly's Spring 2013 collection has a great contrast of soft hues with bold and edgy dark colors. She has this one dress in a soft pale white with black pattern design that looked like wisps of smoke when the model was walking. She mixes black and bold yellows and greens while adding sheer and fishnet material. Her line appeals to both the sophisticated and flirty women. Milly has a flagship store in New York located at 900 Madison Avenue. I really like her style; I feel like I can wear them anywhere.

Added perk to this show was Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte; who was an EXTRA TV correspondent! The girls were all over him.

I'm not sure which venue I like better--Bryant Park and Lincoln Center--but there definitely is a lot more room at Lincoln.

They have an outdoor patio where they set up a Diet Pepsi DJ booth and photo backdrop. People were allowed to smoke there. Caboodles (celebrating their 25 year anniversary!), Maybelline, WGSN, Style, TRESemme and of course Mercedes-Benz were some of the sponsors that had booths set up in the vestibule area. I spotted Joan Rivers there.
